Event Team Summary

EVENT TEAM: QUICK RECAP

You should know this already ☺️

Joining the events team means you’ll be selling and promoting Craft Notes at events WE set up.

This is for anyone that 💗Loves💗 Craft Notes, local culture, and going to events and meeting people.
(personally, I like working events better than being at them, but that is just me:)

YOUR JOB: READ FULL DESCRIPTION >

  • #1 Promote Craft Notes and Local Culture
  • #2 Sell books at Markets
  • #3 Support Social media, etc. when you are out at events
  • PAY: Hourly, ~minimum wage + commissions

You SHOULD already be on the email list, but if not, make sure below.

SETUP: Event Team (~5 minutes)

Follow the following steps 1 time (1st time) to ensure you are properly setup.

This will give you the resources to be successful, Ensure you get the events you want, AND ensure you get paid.

ALL STEPS MUST BE COMPLETED BEFORE YOU CAN BE PAID.

SETUP-1) Sign up to Email List (if not already done)

(this should already be done, but if not, do it now)

  1. Event Reminders
  2. Craft Notes Updates (before anyone)
  3. App, or other opporunties
  4. Staff only discounts and opportunities
SETUP-2: Upload Tax Forms

You will fill out the registration form to get paid. We have a link to a 1099 form. Fill it out and upload as requested.

1099 Form: RETITLE it, include your name, so we can find it in file; this is required to be paid!

SETUP-3: GET APP so you can show people!

  1. Download our app (you’ll need it for free drinks when at events) – Don’t forget to rate us in the App Store!
  2. Instagram. Follow us @craft_notes
  3. Optional: Please also post a testimonial on your page. We will share it!
SETUP-4: Gain Access to Private Instagram for Event Team (and turn on notifications) – This is your main resource!

We have set up a private instagram. This includes links to your resources as well as tutorials. We may use it for other things too.

It’s very important to do this. It will give you instant access to trouble-shooting or other points of contact. Do it now!

    **CRUSICAL so you don’t miss; we’ll post events here + its a link to tutorials and helpful guides.

SETUP-5: Follow Event Google Calendar 📅

Events on Google Calendar are active events that need people! Follow the calendar, add your name, be the 1st to get it by emailing us.

While we have multiple options for doing this without, it is best and easiest for you to just have square. Without it, you will be limited to only selling single books for full price.

1) PRE-EVENT: Print Event Team 1-sheet

Please print this 1-sheet if it is not provided for you for your event.

BE SURE TO NOTE ANY NEEDS (Table? Tent? Contact info? Special instructions for the day? This should all be noted in the GCal event, and you should confirm that you are prepared)

2) AT EVENT: Sell books & Collect Emails!
  • Arrive on time to Set up. Be easy. Set up in best spot!
    (NOTE: Many times, spots are 1st come, 1st served, so you may choose to arrive early, set up, then return)
  • Have fun. Sell books! — Remember, you have to engage so pull people in!
  • Put things away; be sure to take inventory and put things away with care for next event.

Do your thing! Remember to be cool to staff, etc. Also, PLEASE DO NOT RUIN OUR THINGS. Sometimes this happens, but help us reduce waste and cost!

Tips:

  • Focus on sales
  • Slow? That’s ok, go take photos!
  • Pull people in. Engage. Don’t just wait for them to come to you.

FAQ

How do I collect Payments?

As you are going to our events, you will need to use our POS system. Please use Square (Setup: Step 6 above)

Can I accept Cash? What do I do with it? If doing cash how do I make change?

YES. Please take cash. It should log in Square with checkout.

You can round for nearest dollar related to sales tax.

Please keep the cash separate. (I like to add $30 in small bills to my pocket; this is “craft notes cash” — You will make change out of that, and keep all sales cash together (you will then be responsible to send us Cash – $30; the amount that was yours)

Events Team Job Description

Want to earn some extra money while supporting great local businesses?

Your goal will be to raise local awareness of Craft Notes and support the great local businesses within. This means at lots of fun block parties, breweries, concerts (and also some less fun things, but still great like the mall or farmers markets)… Your job is to attend events and promote Craft Notes, collect emails, take photos, and sell books.

PERKS:

  • Given priority for free tickets/ high-demand events 
  • Personal discount codes for friends
  • Given physical passports to sell
  • Additional passports for you and your friends (to help build social content)
  • Great pay (both hourly+commission and commission only options)
  • Work at these events with friends; extra cash for them, more fun for you!

REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be social, outgoing, and good at talking to people
  • Must feel comfortable talking to/approaching strangers and making friends
  • Must be dependable and able to work shifts you commit to 
  • Must have own transportation
  • Must be able to follow instruction as well as adapt on your feet

DESIRED SKILLS

  • Basic photoshop/image editing skills
  • Amatuer photographer/videographer
  • Social media guru
  • Good writer and/or interest in blogging a plus
  • Experience at or with Breweries and restaurants (know some things)

AVAILABILITY

  • Must be available evenings and weekends when most events happen
  • Most shifts are like 2-5 hours if working events (mall shifts are 6-8)

YOU SHOULD KNOW... 
Don't quit your day job:) This is a fun position that gets you out of the house, talking with people and supporting a small business and promoting your favorite partners in our books. You'll get some drinks, make some friends, and do some cool stuff.

HOW MUCH DOES THIS PAY?
We pay $10/hour + Bonus. Hours are for the time you are scheduled for the event.

Bonus = 8% of all profits! We’re trying to encourage you to do your best, and you’ll share in the success.

In the summer, this means ~$11 – $14/hour (plan on $12, lets do better). During holidays, it could mean up to $13-18/hour or more.

WHEN WILL I BE PAID?
We are making an effort to standardize this. We will make payment for hours on the 1st Tuesday of the month (this will 100% be done by Friday).

  2. Fill out the staffing form
  3. RECOMMENDED: Get your own reader!
    We have should have this, but it’s handy to have your own. Go to Square and get a free account/reader. At work you will use our ipad/swiper, but it’s real handy to have your own.

Soon, you’ll get an email from me (matt@craftnotes.net or events@craftnotes.net)  – we send emails to people to pick up shifts. Just reply to a shift you want to do!

  1. If confirming, we’re counting on you! So please be dependable.
  2. IF we are having problems filling shifts, we will probably call, dependable people 1st, then others.
  3. IF we have something really great lots of people want to do, we try to accommodate (at least from a fun angle if able); best shifts go to most dependable people.
