Each month in Minnesota we feature a local craftsman to tell their story and provide you opportunities all across the Twin Cities to try out what they do best. May's feature is made possible by partnerships between 56 Brewing, Craft Notes, MN Makers Podcast, Thrifty Hipster, Smack Shack, Ansari's, Ombibulous, and Ale Jail.

MAKING GARDEN-TO-GROWLER BEERS THAT THEY LIKE TO DRINK.

Nestled in NE Minneapolis, 56 Brewing is a pioneering taproom and microbrewery you must visit. If your taste buds are in the mood for something different, 13 choices of craft beer, as well as a fresh monthly rotation, await you.
You may have visited their original space, which opened in 2015. Needing some more
growing room, they moved to their new location in May of 2017. Partnering with their
local harvesters and growers, 56 sources their ingredients from local Minnesota farms and community gardens. Embodying their coined “Garden to Growler” tactics assures quality infusions for exciting and unique beers.
Kale, 56 Brewing’s creator and founder, strives to only brew the best. A respectful
relationship with water is the foundation for creating good beer, and is the lifeblood of
When you visit, take note of the robin’s egg blue paddle at the entry, it’s part of the brewery’s namesake. From childhood, Kale has had a love of the water and passion for boating that he shared with his father. Little did he know, his favorite number, 56, was rooted in it as well. Wanting a tangible connection to greet his patrons, he chose to have his family’s decommissioned paddle boat as a symbol, and put it outside the new entrance. A little while later, someone pointed out to Kale the potential headwaters of why he was drawn to his brewery’s numerical namesake. Almost hidden from view, faintly stamped into the metal of the aging family paddle boat, was a “56.”
DOG-FRIENDLY BREWERY & PATIO
Bring your best friend! They do. You may also want to catch their next Secondhand Hounds event or a bi-monthly summer corgi race.

56 Brewing beers to Try
Raspberry Berliner Weisse
Refreshing effervescence perfectly compliments the tart bite and sour nibble of this 4.5% ABV Ale / 13 IBU.
Sippi Squeeze American IPA
One of my favorite new hazy IPAs. Fragrant citrus romances the senses and smooth hoppiness is the perfect level of bitter. 6% ABV / 25IBU
